Every now and again, it’s a good idea to do something just because it is a good thing to do. Such was the case with the site below, “Heidi’s Operation Tomodachi.” Our prime web designer and technical lead’s neighbor is from Japan. In the aftermath of the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, she felt compelled to help somehow, albeit from half a world away. She decided to raise money to help some of the nearly forgotten victims, namely the displaced pets and livestock who were also homeless after the devastation. She made t-shirts to sell, and sent the profits to a group on the ground in Japan doing the actual work.
That’s a noble cause and it was something we could get behind without a second thought. XOXOXO provided design, implementation and hosting services at our cost for a website where donations and sales could happen, or if you will, a very basic e-commerce site. It was our way to lend a hand, and we’re happy to have had the opportunity to do so.
Some key points about the site, Heidi’s Operation Tomodachi:
- We provided the design of the site
- We did original photography for the site
- We provided licensing for the site
- We took client-provided illustrations and made needed edits for site integration
- We integrated the e-commerce section into the proper pay channels
- And we made the site such that our “client” could take matters into her own hands and add, remove or edit content as she likes using the WordPress interface.
- And we did all of this in less than two days from start to go-live.
It’s just how we roll.
